On the July 28 episode of the online variety show Jjannhyung Shin Dong-yup, Won Jin-ah appeared alongside Dex, where she shared heartfelt memories from her pre-debut days. When host Shin Dong-yup mentioned her past part-time job at a movie theater, the actress was visibly moved. “That’s right. I tear up every time someone mentions the movie theater,” she admitted, fighting back tears.
Won Jin-ah revealed that she had worked at the theater for about three years, often training new managers despite being a part-time employee. “Whenever a new manager started, I’d teach them like I was full-time,” she added with a laugh.
She recounted how actors would visit the theater for stage greetings while she was working — a mix of envy and aspiration filled those moments for her. “It was such a mix of emotions — a sense of despair, envy, and the thought, ‘I’ll be like that one day,’ alongside admiration,” she said. “I’d be doing the morning meeting and suddenly someone would say, ‘The actors are arriving — please step aside.’ Then I’d watch them come in looking so cool and think to myself, ‘When will I ever get to do a stage greeting like that?’”
Years later, she found herself in that very position for the film Money. “When I visited the theater, the staff — wearing the same uniform I used to wear — were guiding me. I wondered, ‘Did that really happen to me? Was that just something I imagined?’ It felt like I’d swapped souls. I used to sweep the floors and glance at the actors out of the corner of my eye,” she reflected, describing the moment as surreal.
Currently, Won Jin-ah is starring in The Defects, a thriller drama airing on ENA. The series tells a gripping survival and revenge tale centered on children abandoned by their adoptive parents.
