At the beginning of 2025, all of Asia was shaken by the sudden passing of “Meteor Garden” star Barbie Hsu. In the days following her death, reports about her passing and the involvement of her family, ex-husband, and current husband have dominated the media. Recently, Chinese outlets reported that Barbie Hsu’s family, along with around ten close colleagues, held a private farewell ceremony for the late actress.
The ceremony took place on February 13 at Barbie Hsu’s residence in Taipei, Taiwan. Close friend and TV host Jia Yongjie revealed that the farewell was conducted according to Barbie Hsu’s wishes. Family and friends gathered to drink, eat fruit, and share lively conversations. Since it was a private event, no photos or videos were released.
Surprisingly, attendees also played the piano and sang several special songs.
“The atmosphere at Barbie Hsu’s farewell was warm and heartfelt. There were songs, there were tears, but we honored her wish for everyone to part ways with her in peace, without loud cries of sorrow,” Jia Yongjie shared.
This revelation has moved many people, as sudden deaths usually leave family members struggling to cope. However, Barbie Hsu’s loved ones suppressed their grief and carried out the farewell in accordance with her final wishes, making it all the more touching.
Meanwhile, although half a month has passed, Barbie Hsu’s family remains in deep sorrow. Her mother and husband, Koo Jun-yup (DJ Koo), are devastated. The South Korean musician has reportedly lost over 7kg, appearing gaunt and exhausted, with his once-muscular physique visibly diminished.
DJ Koo, known as a member of the legendary K-pop duo CLON, first dated Barbie Hsu in 1998 when he frequently visited Taiwan for performances. The two secretly dated after meeting on a TV show, but their relationship ended within a year due to management interference. While Barbie Hsu later married Wang Xiaofei, DJ Koo remained single.
In 2021, following Barbie Hsu’s divorce, DJ Koo took a chance and called her old phone number. She answered, and they quickly rekindled their love. After months of long-distance calls, DJ Koo proposed, and Barbie Hsu accepted. The couple announced their remarriage on March 8, 2022, capturing the hearts of fans across Asia.
Her passing, just before their third wedding anniversary, is a heartbreaking blow to DJ Koo, making the loss even more difficult to bear.
