Kim Bo-ra Reveals Why She Got Married at 28: “It Felt Natural, My Husband is My Bamboo Forest”

Kim Bo-ra discussed her career and personal life as her MBC drama “Black Out” was coming to an end

“Black Out” is a reverse-tracing crime thriller about a young man falsely accused of murder after a mysterious bodyless crime. 10 years later, he uncovers the truth about what really happened. In the drama, Kim Bo-ra played Ha-seol, a mysterious outsider in the city of Mucheon. During the interview with MyDaily, Kim Bo-ra stood out for her candidness and grounded personality.

Kim Bo-ra, who began acting as a child around the age of 10, explained, “My mother got me started. I didn’t really know what this work was all about and lived that way until I was 20. I don’t see being an actress as something particularly special. It’s just one of the thousands of jobs out there.”

She continued, “There are so many famous celebrities, so it’s surprising and lucky that I even get mentioned. That’s how I’ve always felt. I still feel grateful every time I attend auditions, and landing a role feels incredible. That’s why I always try to give my best.”

Kim Bo-ra admitted to hitting a low point in her career, she shared, “At 23, I felt lost for the first time. I didn’t get cast even for short films. But then I told myself, ‘I’m only 23,’ and when I got tired, I felt relieved that I was still in my 20s. I believed it was natural to go through this. I have no specific expectations for my 30s other than wanting to explore new roles. However, I’m open to revisiting similar roles, as I believe my perspective on them would change now compared to when I was 24.”

At the age of 28, Kim Bo-ra began the next chapter of her life by getting married to director Jo Ba-reun, whom she worked with on the film “The Grotesque Mansion”. When asked why she chose to marry at a relatively young age, she said, “This might sound funny, but I have more non-celebrity friends than celebrity ones. My timeline has aligned with my 2 best friends from elementary school. They all got married early, so it felt natural to me.”

Regarding how marriage has changed her life, she said, “It feels like having a bamboo forest. Before, I rarely shared my struggles with family or friends. I always thought, ‘Everyone’s going through hard times, what’s the point of talking about it?’ But since I married someone in the same industry, I’ve started to open up bit by bit.”

When asked about having children, she responded, “Last year, I thought a lot about it, but this year, I want to enjoy a bit more time as newlyweds.” She also mentioned that she’s open to working on her husband’s projects.

In conclusion, Kim Bo-ra expressed her hopes for the rest of the year, “I want to live more freely, without causing any problems. If I take on another project, I hope to be more thorough in self-evaluation than I’ve been before.”
