Baekhyun, D.O, Jennie – Kpop Stars Recently Under Fire For Smoking Indoor

Baekhyun’s Indoor Smoking Caught, Agency Issues Apology

On the 16th, Baekhyun’s agency INB100 stated, “We sincerely apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable due to the indoor smoking incident involving our artist Baekhyun, which has been circulating on the internet.”

Baekhyun’s side explained, “At that time, neither Baekhyun nor the staff were aware that Macau prohibited the import of electronic cigarettes. While having a meal with the staff after the performance in Macau, Baekhyun unconsciously used an electronic cigarette as the conversation became more engaging.”

The agency added, “Baekhyun deeply regrets and apologizes for disappointing many fans with his careless behavior. Both Baekhyun and the agency will take extra precautions to ensure that such incidents do not happen again, and we promise not to let fans be disappointed by such situations in the future.”

Earlier, several online communities circulated photos and videos showing Baekhyun smoking indoors at a restaurant.

After the apology statement was released, netizens continued to criticize, saying, “It was a restaurant, right? So everyone was eating, weren’t they?” “Unconsciously? Is it that hard to hold back for a moment?” and “No matter how overseas it is, rude behavior isn’t acceptable.”

The issue of idols smoking indoors has repeatedly become a hot topic. Last July, BLACKPINK member Jennie was caught smoking while receiving makeup, leading to a controversy over indoor smoking and abuse of power.

In response, Jennie’s independent label Odd Atelier (OA) stated, “Jennie also reflects on the fact that she smoked indoors and caused inconvenience to the staff. She personally reached out to the staff who were present at the scene to apologize. We apologize to the fans who were disappointed and promise to show a more mature and better side of Jennie in the future.”

EXO’s D.O. (Do Kyung-soo) was also caught smoking indoors and fined for it.

Footage of D.O. smoking indoors was captured in EXO’s behind-the-scenes content from a music show waiting room.

A netizen filed a complaint regarding D.O.’s indoor smoking at the Sangam MBC building, and the Mapo District Health Center responded, “The individual and the agency claimed that they used a nicotine-free electronic cigarette. However, since the product’s ingredients and guidebook could not conclusively prove it was nicotine-free, a fine was imposed. The individual has also pledged to adhere to the law as a public figure in the future.”

Regarding the repeated controversy over idols smoking indoors, many netizens responded with various opinions: “Are they smoking indoors out of habit to avoid being caught by fans?” “Smoking indoors in a non-smoking area and when others are around is a big problem,” “Is the industry creating this environment?” and “If it’s always a controversy, they should stop repeating it.”
