Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who directed “Squid Game,” shared his heartfelt thoughts on presenting Seasons 2 and 3 through a letter.

The full letter is as follows:

“The real game begins.

It’s been almost three years since Season 1 received tremendous love and incredible events unfolded. I am so delighted and excited to be able to write to you about the release schedule of Season 2 and the news of Season 3 production.

On the first day of filming for Season 2, I remember feeling somewhat surreal thinking, ‘Wow, I’m back in the world of Squid Game and filming it again.’ I wonder how the world of Squid Game, which you are re-encountering after three years, will feel to you.

Seong Gi-hun, who hinted at revenge at the end of Season 1, returns and participates in the game again. Can he succeed in his revenge as he promised? The Front Man who confronts him also seems formidable. The fierce battle they will show will continue to the grand finale, Season 3, which will be released next year. I am genuinely delighted to be able to bring the ideas that sprouted while planning the new journey of Squid Game to fruition in the story continuing to Season 3 and finally conclude it.

I will do my best in the remaining work to meet you in spectacular form.

Please wait with an excited heart.

Thank you always. See you soon, everyone.”

Along with the announcement of the new season’s release date, the first still of Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) has been revealed, heightening anticipation for the series. Unlike his appearance boarding a plane to the U.S. at the end of Season 1, Gi-hun is now seen with shorter black hair, wearing a green tracksuit with the number 456, indicating his participation in the game again. Why and how he re-enters the game, and what new stories will unfold in the “Squid Game” are intriguing questions that amplify the excitement.

The fresh concept and gripping storyline that astonished the world, featuring returning stars like Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-joon, Gong Yoo, and new cast members such as Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-wook, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-shim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun (T.O.P), Noh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri, and Won Ji-an, bring an even more powerful ensemble. “Squid Game” Season 2 will be available exclusively on Netflix from December 26, 2024, for viewers around the globe.
