Jennie Resumes SNS Amidst ‘Smoking in Front of Staff’ Controversy, Wishes Stylist a Happy Birthday

On the 30th, Jennie shared a story on her Instagram of someone happily holding a birthday cake, conveying her congratulations. The person in the photo is known to be BLACKPINK’s stylist.

Previously, Jennie caused a controversy for ‘indoor smoking’ and ‘smoking in front of staff’ by blowing smoke towards a staff member doing her makeup. She quickly apologized through her agency.

OA Entertainment, Jennie’s agency, stated on the 9th, “We sincerely apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable with Jennie’s behavior in the content released on the 2nd.”

The agency added, “Jennie is reflecting on smoking indoors and causing inconvenience to other staff members. She has also contacted the staff member present at the scene to apologize directly.”

Jennie, who has been loved for her pure and innocent image, suffered unexpected damage to her image due to her company’s mistake of posting the video.

On the 22nd, Jennie ranked first in a poll on the community portal site DC Inside with the topic ‘Stars whose image has been damaged due to smoking.’

Jennie received 8,410 votes (10%) out of a total of 92,318 votes in the poll conducted from the 15th to the 21st.

Second place went to Lee Chaeyoung with 7,940 votes (9%). Lee Chaeyoung, a member of fromis_9, was classified as a smoker after posting a photo on social media that included an object presumed to be an electronic cigarette.

Third place went to Do Kyungsoo with 7,935 votes (9%). Do Kyungsoo, a member of EXO and an actor, was criticized for indoor smoking after being seen blowing smoke through his nose in a waiting room in a video posted on YouTube.

Meanwhile, although there is a perception that electronic cigarettes are less harmful than regular cigarettes, the principle of inhaling ‘nicotine’ is the same. According to current law, buildings used for office purposes, factories, and mixed-use buildings with a total floor area of 1,000 square meters or more are designated as non-smoking areas. Smoking in a non-smoking area is subject to a fine of up to 100,000 won.
