On July 8th, a short video titled “Jennie’s Indoor Smoking” was uploaded on various online communities. The video shows Jennie surrounded by several staff members while receiving makeup, holding a mysterious object. After placing the object in her mouth, smoke is seen dispersing into the air.
This video is part of a vlog posted on Jennie’s YouTube channel on July 2nd, filmed during her overseas schedule. This segment is currently deleted.
The netizens who watched the video raised issues about Jennie blowing smoke toward a staff member. They reacted with comments such as, “Blowing smoke in someone else’s face seems rude,” “What did the person next to her do to deserve this?” and “Can’t she even wait until she’s done with her makeup?“
On the other hand, some argued, “The staff member, who is directly involved, didn’t express any dissatisfaction, so why does it matter?” and “Hasty criticism isn’t warranted.”
According to Article 9, Paragraph 4, Item 16 of the National Health Promotion Act, office buildings, factories, and mixed-use buildings with a total floor area of 1,000㎡ or more are designated as non-smoking areas. If someone smokes indoors in these non-smoking areas, they can be fined up to 100,000 won. However, electronic cigarettes that do not contain nicotine are classified as ‘tobacco-like products’ and are exempt from fines.
However, in Jennie’s case, since the location in the video is presumed to be overseas, even if she was smoking indoors, it is argued that she would not be subject to domestic penalties.
