Ryu Jun-yeol Mentions Romance Scandal & Other Controversies, “The Best Way Is To Remain Silent”

Actor Ryu Jun-yeol expressed his thoughts on his recent romance controversy and the reason he kept silence

On May 23rd, Ryu Jun-yeol, the leading actor in Netflix’s original series “The 8 Show”, was held at a cafe in Sogyeok-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.

Previously, Ryu Jun-yeol acknowledged his relationship with actress Han So-hee by revealing the time of his breakup with ex-girlfriend Hyeri and when he started dating Han So-hee. However, unlike Han So-hee, who actively mentioned their romance on SNS and her blog, Ryu Jun-yeol remained silent. During that period, other controversies surrounding him also arose.

Later at the press conference for “The 8 Show”, Ryu Jun-yeol shared, “Amid the issues related to my private life, various posts appeared on social media at that time, regardless of my intentions. Therefore, I thought it was best to remain silent and endure the criticism rather than responding to each of the issues”.

Looking back on when he kept silent about controversies, Ryu Jun-yeol confessed, “That wasn’t the right place for me to share my story in detail. I believe that it would be better if I explain it through an interview”, adding “I still think the same now”.

The actor emphasized, “Regardless of my will, I still think the best way is to accept criticism without saying whether it is true or not through speculations and comments on the Internet”.

He explained, “Rather than creating more rumors and speculations by saying something people have never heard of, I think it’s best to keep silent so the story won’t spread any further. I keep the criticism and my own concerns for myself”, adding “I can’t explain the whole thing to you guys but I’ve done my best. I thought sharing my pain might help me feel better but I decided that it wasn’t the right thing to do”.

In addition, when asked, “Was there any story that made you feel unfair?”, Ryu Jun-yeol said, “I don’t think there’s any story like that”, adding “Even then, I never thought, ‘I should talk about it after time goes by’. I should deal with the criticism at the time, and it was not a situation where I could feel better by talking about it.”

Meanwhile, “The 8 Show” premiered on Netflix on May 17th. Produced as an adaptation of the webtoons “Money Game” and “Pie Game”, the drama depicts the story of 8 characters being trapped in a secret space divided into 8 floors and they have to participate in a sweet but dangerous show to earn money by accumulating time.
