BBC Apologized And Deleted Content About KBS In Burning Sun Documentary

According to KBS on May 22nd, the British public broadcaster BBC officially apologized to KBS after acknowledging that the information “a KBS lawyer contacted and pressured Jung Joon-young’s victim” in the documentary “Burning Sun: Exposing the secret K-pop chat groups” released on their YouTube channel on the 19th was not true.

BBC sent an official statement to KBS earlier on the same day in Korean time, acknowledging that there was an error in the documentary released on “BBC News Korea” and “BBC World Service” YouTube channels due to their mistake. They immediately deleted the part mentioning KBS in the video and corrected the information.

In addition, the narration in the documentary mentioning Jung Joon-young’s ex-girlfriend receiving legal advice from a KBS lawyer has been corrected as, “It was confirmed that his ex-girlfriend received legal advice from an independent lawyer. We want to make it clear that this error was a mistake by BBC, not the reporter”.

Additionally, it was clarified that the legal advice received by Jung Joon Young’s ex-girlfriend, mentioned in the narration of the documentary, was not from a KBS lawyer but rather “independent legal advice she obtained on her own.”

They also added, “We want to make it clear that this error was the BBC’s mistake, not that of the interviewed journalist.”

BBC sincerely apologized to KBS, pointing out that the incident was an error caused by an unintended misunderstanding.
