Zico Criticized By Chinese Netizens Due To His Song Lyrics

Singer-rapper & Block B member Zico is facing a backlash from Chinese netizens because of the lyrics of his song

Recently, screenshots of Chinese netizens’ comments criticizing the lyrics of Zico’s song “If I ain’t got OO (word disparaging China)” have been shared widely in online communities.

Apart from the title, the lyrics of this song include many words and expressions disparaging China, such as “It’s OO again”, “I hate OO”, “I hate OO. I really hate it”, etc.

Although Zico seems to have used the word “OO” as slang to refer to jjajangmyeon in the song, many Chinese netizens still criticize him.

Korean netizens also expressed disappointment in Zico. They commented, “I feel bad about this”, “Even if Chinese people swear at him this time, I have nothing to say”, “I would also feel insulted if I were Chinese”, “I think there are more disparaging words than that”, “Did he really have to use such words?”, “I agree that people should criticize him more”, “He worked on this song with rapper Hanhae”, etc.

According to the latest Billboard chart release on May 21st,  Zico’s new song “SPOT!” ranked No.1 in the Global chart (excl. US) and No.32 on Global 200, marking the third consecutive week of charting. The song also received good responses and charted high in Korea. In particular, it topped Melon and Genie’s Weekly charts for three consecutive weeks.

“SPOT!” is the first song Zico released this year to mark the 10th anniversary of his solo debut. The song aroused keen attention as it features BLACKPINK’s Jennie.
