Singer IU made a generous donation of 500 million KRW to mark the end of the year. Known for her consistent philanthropic efforts since debut, IU recently made headlines for pre-paying for food and other supplies at a rally calling for President Yoon Suk-yeol’s impeachment.
On December 25th, her agency EDAM Entertainment announced, “IU, under the name ‘IUaena’, a combination of her stage name and her fan club ‘Uaena’, donated a total of 500 million KRW to support various underprivileged groups.“
The disclosed beneficiaries include Seoul Asan Medical Center, Seoul Independence Support Agency, Warm Accompaniment Welfare Foundation, Love Snail Foundation, Open Welfare Foundation, Plan International Korea, Walking Together Welfare Foundation and Smile Together Foundation, totaling eight organizations.
IU has been consistently spreading warmth through her steady good deeds and contributions.
According to the music industry on January 5th, IU recently donated 200 million won for the heating expenses of the vulnerable groups. Her agency, EDAM Entertainment, announced, “On December 31st, 2023, under the name ‘IUaena‘ (a combination of IU and the fan club Uaena), IU donated 200 million won for heating expenses to four organizations: the Korea National Council on Social Welfare, the Korea Child Welfare Association, the Korea Unwed Mothers’ Association, and the Korea Association of Welfare Facilities for the Disabled, aiming to help the vulnerable groups have a warmer winter amidst the severe cold.”

On December 29th, 2023, she also donated 10 million won for income-vulnerable groups. In 2023 alone, IU contributed to fundraising for love coal for low-income vulnerable groups in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province. She also made talent donations to Milal School following her donation to the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation, a child welfare specialized institution, on Children’s Day in May 2023.
IU’s philanthropy has been made possible through her steady savings and healthy wealth accumulation through investments. In fact, her ethical wealth accumulation process earned her the Presidential Commendation at the 8th Financial Day commemoration ceremony, acknowledging her financial prudence.
Industry insiders estimate that IU’s wealth exceeds 50 billion won. In 2021, Hong Kong media South China Morning Post (SCMP) selected IU as the K-pop female artist with the highest wealth. The estimated value of her wealth, as speculated by the media, is 52.7 billion won. This amount is nearly 9 billion won more than the second place, Lee Hyori (46 billion won). Following them are Sandara Park (35.1 billion won), BoA (29.2 billion won), and Suzy (29.2 billion won).

Her real estate holdings are also substantial. IU acquired a luxury villa in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, for 13 billion won and owns a studio in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province, purchased for 4.6 billion won. Particularly noteworthy is that she paid the full villa price in cash without any loans, gaining attention.
In addition, she owns real estate in Yangpyeong-gun. She purchased a two-story rural house with a total floor area of 170 square meters for 2.2 billion won. IU is also reported to have spent 800 million won to acquire additional surrounding land.
