As Lee Sun-kyun tested negative for drugs, attention is focused on whether he will be prosecuted
Regarding the National Forensic Agency’s detailed examination of Lee Sun-kyun’s leg hair for the drug investigation, the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency’s Drug Crime Investigation Team announced on November 15th that “precise assessment is impossible due to insufficient hair weight”.
Earlier, Lee Sun-kyun tested negative in the first examination by the National Forensic Service with hair collected after conducting the simple drug test.
Lee Sun-kyun is suspected of taking drugs at the residence of A (29 years old), a female director at an entertainment establishment, in Seoul. A, with a history of drug crimes, was arrested for administering methamphetamine three times between March and August this year.
On November 4th, Lee Sun-kyun claimed, “A gave drugs to me but deceived me by saying that it was medicine”, adding “I didn’t know that it was illegal drugs”, insisting that he didn’t have any intention of committing the crime. In fact, it is hard to punish someone for drug crimes if the intention can’t be proved.
However, the court rejected both applications for search and seizure warrants for G-Dragon’s communication content and Lee Sun-kyun’s residence due to the lack of evidence to form drug allegations.
On November 19th, lawyer Bae Han-jin said to Hankook Ilbo, “The fact that the court rejected even the lowest level of a warrant, the communication warrant, means that they judged the informant’s statement as lacking in credibility”, adding “It is highly likely that maintaining the indictment will be difficult.”
Regarding Lee Sun-kyun, the lawyer said, “As he admitted to visiting the informant’s house, finding out whether it was intentional or unintentional is the key factor now”, adding “If the actor is acknowledged of intentionally taking drugs, it will be impossible to suspend prosecution”.
