2024 GDA – a “HYBE family concert”
Recently, the 38th Golden Disc Awards (2024 GDA) was held in Jakarta, Indonesia, the public was amazed by the grandeur of the artist line-up. Interestingly, half of the 2024 GDA performing artists are under HYBE, with SEVENTEEN, NewJeans, TXT, LE SSERAFIM, ENHYPEN, and BOYNEXTDOOR.

Teaming up with YB for the stages of “Unforgiven”, “Stay Alive”, and “Fire in the Belly”, the 5 girls set the stage on fire with captivating dancing. Their outstanding performance skills and increasingly mature aura were significant advantages for LE SSERAFIM, representing the new generation.
In contrast to LE SSERAFIM, NewJeans brought a stage full of magical colors with “Cool With You” and “Ditto”. Combining two “colorful” hits, NewJeans received a shower of praise for their artistic and dreamy stage setup. The group’s live skills improved, and their graceful choreography brought a breath of fresh air to the event.
In addition, the three 4th Gen HYBE boy groups, including TXT, ENHYPEN, and BOYNEXTDOOR, also contributed to heating up the event with three explosive performances.
Noteworthy is the viral “comedic” performance of the SEVENTEEN sub-unit, BSS, which featured Pi Cheolin – an “inside joke” character played by SEVENTEEN’s Dino.
Playing the role of a “nosy CEO grandpa”, Dino contributed a humorous rap verse to the already laughter-filled stage of BSS’s “Fighting”. It seems that SEVENTEEN’s sense of humor is not just limited to their variety shows, but is now also apparent at award ceremonies.
Meanwhile, SEVENTEEN delivered a separate set with performances of their hits “Super” and “God of Music”, alongside the Korean ver of their Japanese title “Ima – Even If the World Ends Tomorrow-”. Despite the absence of 2 members due to injuries, SEVENTEEN still managed to blow up the stage.
NCT Dream Avoids SEVENTEEN at Award Ceremonies?
On the other hand, SEVENTEEN also drew attention for a completely different topic, as netizens realized that whenever SEVENTEEN attended an award ceremony this year, NCT would be absent, and vice versa.
It is suspected that because the 2 groups are strong contenders for Daesang and boy group awards, if one receives the prizes, the other wouldn’t, so they simply wouldn’t attend the same awards ceremonies.
In 2023, SEVENTEEN’s “FML” album set a new record of selling 6.2 million physical copies, while another album of theirs, “Seventeenth Heaven”, sold 5 million copies in the first week. Their title tracks “Super” and “God of Music”, as well as their sub-unit release “Fighting”, also performed well on Korean music charts.
Moreover, SEVENTEEN is also a top-selling foreign artist in Japan in 2023. It can be said that the Pledis male group is the “public’s pick” when it comes to Daesang or album awards, alongside Newjeans (when it comes to Daesang, artist, and digital awards).
However, NCT Dream received the Daesang at the 2023 MMA and the 2024 SMA – 2 award ceremonies which SEVENTEEN did not attend, rousing discussions and controversies. This leads to many netizens suspecting that SM will only allow NCT Dream to attend events where the group is secured to win.

It is known that NCT Dream is set to attend the 1st Blue Dragon Music Awards – where SEVENTEEN is absent, but this event was canceled due to “unforeseen circumstances”.
Meanwhile, some remaining award ceremonies, including CCMA and Hanteo Music Awards (HMA), have not announced their lineup.
