1996 Jennie VS 2011 Lim Seo-won: Age Gap Between Young K-pop Idols And Seniors Is Widening

The age gap between idols has exceeded 10 years because idols nowadays are debuting much earlier than their seniors

Appearing on tvN’s entertainment program “Apartment 404” on February 23rd, BLACKPINK’s Jennie revealed her thoughts about the age of idols nowadays.

Yoo Jae-suk mentioned Jennie’s age, saying “She was born in 1996”. Jennie added, “I’m 27 after my birthday”. Hearing that, Yoo Jae-suk laughed and said, “Jennie has also become sensitive about her age”.

The female idol shared, “After doing overseas activities for a long time, I became a senior to idol groups nowadays. I still can’t get used to it. They are all about seven years younger than me.” Making her debut with BLACKPINK at the age of 20 in 2016, Jennie has done many global activities even before turning 30, proving her presence as a top idol.

Several years after debuting, idols will witness numerous juniors debuting and the number of young idols is also increasing. As more and more idol groups announce their debuts, the age gap between the young generation with senior idols is steadily widening.

Recently, Lim Seo-won from SBS’s girl group audition program “Universe Ticket” surprised everyone as she was selected to make an idol debut. 

Born in 2011, Lim Seo-won is 15 years younger than Jennie. She made her face known to the public in 2020, when she was in the third grade of elementary school, through TV Chosun’s program “Miss Trot 2”. Lim Seo-won is preparing for her debut with UNIS, the group formed through “Universe Ticket”.

Prior to Lim Seo-won, YOUNG POSSE’s youngest member Han Ji-eun also drew attention when she was revealed to be a 2009-born idol. Han Ji-eun was only 13 years old when she debuted.
