Chinese actress Zhao Wei has returned to the public eye under a cloud of intrigue—not for a new film role, but amid bombshell revelations that her ex-husband is reportedly wanted by Interpol.
Zhao Wei Resurfaces Quietly Amid Ex-Husband’s Interpol Scandal
On April 29, Zhao made a low-key appearance at the Beijing premiere of Unique, held at a cinema in the trendy Sanlitun district. Dressed in a black coat and wearing a face mask, she blended in with other attendees, avoiding the spotlight yet quietly participating like any other guest.

The premiere itself was a high-profile affair, featuring top stars such as Chen Kun, Huang Bo, Song Jia, Yu Shi, and Wang Ziwen. Zhao sat alongside long-time friend and Beijing Film Academy classmate Chen Kun, as well as Dearest co-star Huang Bo, but the group kept interactions minimal and refrained from public engagement.
Outside the theater, Zhao was reportedly escorted by a small group, fueling speculation that her presence might be a strategic reentry, gauging public sentiment ahead of a potential comeback. Once one of the biggest names in Chinese entertainment, Zhao’s career came to an abrupt halt in 2021, when she was effectively wiped from Chinese platforms, with her name, works, and fan accounts suddenly deleted in what appeared to be an unofficial blacklisting.

In the aftermath, Zhao’s business ventures faltered, with courts ordering her to repay debts and settle financial obligations. The cause of her fall from grace remains unclear, though theories suggest links to billionaire Jack Ma or political infighting within elite circles.
Divorce, Red Notice, and a Cautious Comeback
Further complicating matters is Zhao Wei’s connection to Huang You Long, her ex-husband, who has now reportedly become the subject of an Interpol red notice. According to the Epoch Times, Huynh—also known by the alias “H”—was allegedly arrested in France and is now awaiting extradition proceedings.

Zhao, however, has been taking steps to distance herself from any legal entanglements. In late 2023, she reappeared on social media, honoring the late novelist Chiung Yao and posting glimpses of her private life. On December 28, she confirmed via Weibo that she had long been divorced from Huang You Long and had reported the separation to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, legally and publicly severing ties.
Although previous rumors suggested she had fled to France, Zhao re-emerged on Instagram, stating that she was in Beijing with her mother. In recent months, she’s been more active online, sharing a poster for a Chiung Yao tribute concert and changing her profile picture to a traditional Chinese painting depicting a tiger resting beneath a bird—an image interpreted by some fans as a symbol of strength, calm, and endurance.

Despite her appearance at the Unique premiere, Zhao was not listed on the film’s official page, and she was carefully avoided in official press coverage. Even during speeches by co-stars like Chen Kun, camera angles were strategically positioned to exclude her.
Observers see Zhao’s appearance as a careful test of the waters. Whether this marks the beginning of a gradual reentry into the industry or simply a fleeting public moment remains to be seen. For now, one of China’s most enigmatic stars is once again hovering at the edge of the spotlight—watching, waiting, and perhaps planning her next move.
