Zhao Wei has been effectively blacklisted from the Chinese entertainment industry for five years, yet reports about her current lifestyle continue to attract massive public attention.
Many netizens previously assumed the former superstar was living in financial ruin following her career collapse, divorce, and legal controversies. However, recent Chinese media reports claim the actress has quietly maintained a comfortable life overseas despite her downfall in China.
According to QQ, Zhao Wei had already prepared an “escape route” long before her entertainment ban became official.

The controversy surrounding the actress dates back to 2016, when Zhao Wei and her businessman ex-husband Huang Youlong were accused of manipulating the stock market. The scandal reportedly caused major financial losses for numerous investors across China.
In 2018, China’s securities regulators officially banned the couple from participating in the stock market for five years and fined them 300,000 yuan each. Zhao Wei was also reportedly ordered to pay millions in compensation while facing hundreds of lawsuits related to the case.
The actress’ public image rapidly deteriorated, and in 2021, she was suddenly erased from major Chinese entertainment platforms overnight. Her films and television projects were reportedly removed from streaming services, while several of her social media accounts became inaccessible.

Despite her situation in China, reports claim Zhao Wei had already transferred large portions of her wealth overseas years earlier. Chinese media described the actress as a highly skilled investor who allegedly purchased valuable real estate properties in Singapore and moved assets to the United States through complex financial structures.
Because of this, even after her businesses in China reportedly collapsed and some domestic assets were frozen, Zhao Wei was still able to maintain a stable lifestyle abroad and send her daughter to elite schools overseas.
The actress also reportedly continues to maintain strong industry relationships despite her blacklisted status.

Last month, Zhao Wei attended a reunion celebrating the 30th anniversary of the 1996 acting class at the Beijing Film Academy alongside several famous classmates. Photos from the gathering showed stars such as Chen Kun and Huang Xiaoming openly interacting with her, sparking renewed public discussion online.
Reports also claimed that several industry friends quietly supported projects associated with Zhao Wei even after her blacklist controversy.
Although the former My Fair Princess star can no longer dominate Chinese entertainment like before, sources say she still lives relatively comfortably overseas while continuing to hope for a future return to the industry.
