Yoona saves the day with graceful and professional handling of co-host’s inappropriate jokes
Yoona shone with her handling of awkward situations at the “2nd Blue Dragon Series Awards.”
The 2023 “Blue Dragon Series Awards” gather various stars and A-listers to the event, including Song Hye Kyo, Yoona, Suzy, Cha Eun Woo, and Girls’ Generation Yuri, to name a few. It became the biggest event in the second half of the year.
Yoona and Jun Hyun Moo are the hosts of this year’s “2nd Blue Dragon Series Awards.” Recently, the male MC came into criticism for making inappropriate “jokes” at his co-host, Yoona, and a female star.
The first incident occurred when Jun Hyun Moo brought up “King the Land” and Yoona during his speech about the hit drama series with high ratings of the year. Instead of praising Yoona genuinely, Jun Hyun Moo made an inappropriate joke, saying, “YoonA told me to make sure to mention this.” In response, Yoona quickly said, “It’s not me. But it’s written here.” However, her male co-host continued, “‘King The Land’ which has YoonA appearing is reaching #1 as the Top TV show globally.” While Yoona maintained her professionalism and thanked Jun Hyun Moo for bringing it up, he was still persistent with the “skit,” saying, “Are you satisfied now?” to which YoonA further explained, “This is written (on the script) here, everyone. Please don’t misunderstand.”
The joke put Yoona in an uncomfortable situation as it might mislead others into thinking that the female star used her privilege as the show’s MC to promote her series.
At the same time, other stars were clapping and smiling forcefully at the poorly prepared “skit.” Nonetheless, it helped Yoona to recover from the awkward situation.
Jun Hyun Moo continued making another inappropriate joke when he mentioned Suzy. But this time, the crowd did not respond. The male MC did a quick fix by saying, “This is no fun.”
Yoona saved the day once again by wittily responding, “He made a joke using the series title. The script says to say, ‘Jeon Hyunmoo seems like he’s in good condition,’ but I feel like I shouldn’t say it now,” drawing laughter and applause from the audience.
Jun Hyun Moo’s lack of professionalism stirred negative responses from netizens. They were not pleased by his “jokes” or “skits” and took jabs at his unprofessional attitude. At the same time, they praised Yoona for handling the situation well and salvaging the award show.
