Fake news about Yoo Jae Seok and his wife, Na Kyung Eun, is gaining resurgent interest.

On August 14, a post on FM Korea titled “Why the controversy over the assault of Yoo Jae Seok and Na Kyung Eun is serious” is gaining widespread attention.

The content of the video about Yoo Jae Seok’s alleged assault against Na Kyung Eun is no less startling. The video includes shocking statements such as “Breaking news – Na Kyung Eun after 18 years of marriage with Yoo Jae Seok!! Usual assault” or “Yoo Jae Seok’s wife is ‘habitually assaulted’…Na Kyung Eun burst into tears.” The channel also contained unverified news about other stars such as the figure skater Kim Yuna and chief Baek Jong Won.

Nonetheless, netizens remained skeptical after seeing the post and demanded concrete evidence for the claims in the video. While young people have better filters against fake news, middle-aged people tend to believe it without a doubt because they believe “the media equals community’s [view],” according to a netizen.

Yoo Jae Seok, the said victim of fake news, once expressed frustration about unconfirmed rumors of him on “DdeunDdeun” in March.

At the time, the comedian was rumored to be moving to a new location. In response to the rumors, Yoo Jae Seok said, “I can move my home to any area I want” and “that’s nothing strange to talk about”. Nonetheless, “It’s ridiculous that something becomes true the moment they said, ‘he did it’, rather than ‘it is rumored that he did it’.” He expressed, “The problem is that fake news is spreading like a fact. The most frustrating thing is that the victim of such a rumor has to explain and prove that it’s wrong.”
