YG’s different reactions to BLACKPINK’s dating issues: Immediately confirms Jisoo & Ahn Bo Hyun but stays silent about Jennie & V
All BLACKPINK members have been embroiled in dating rumors, but YG responded differently in each situation.
On August 3rd, Jisoo’s agency YG Entertainment and Ahn Bo Hyun’s agency FN Entertainment confirmed that the two artists have recently started dating.
YG told Newsen, “The two are in the early stage of getting to know each other little by little with good feelings. Please give them a warm look”. FN also released a similar position.
This is the first time a member of BLACKPINK acknowledged a dating rumor that spread among the public. Since their debut in 2016, BLACKPINK members have been rumored of dating top stars several times, but they either denied them or remained silent. YG is known as an agency that respects artists’ opinions when it comes to dating issues, therefore, they often arrange response methods or organize official statements that reflect the wills of the artists.
Before admitting to dating Ahn Bo Hyun, Jisoo was previously embroiled in a romance suspicion with football player Son Heung Min in 2021 but it turned out to be a false rumor.
Regarding Jisoo and Son Heung Min’s dating rumor back then, YG released an official stance through the media, saying “All rumors and speculations of romantic relationships related to BLACKPINK Jisoo are clearly groundless. Our company has been monitoring the situation closely. However, as the rumor has begun to circulate on foreign sites, we are concerned that there would potentially cause harm to the artist so we want to correct the wrong information. We sincerely ask you to refrain from making indiscriminate speculations.”
Apart from Jisoo, Rosé also denied dating allegations. In April, rumors of her romantic relationship with actor Kang Dong Won surfaced. YG first stated, “We cannot confirm it since it’s the artist’s private issue”, then made a second stance, saying “We would like to clarify that dating rumors involving Rosé are not true. We would appreciate it if you could refrain from spreading false information.”
On July 19th, member Lisa was rumored to be dating Frédéric Arnault, the son of luxury brand LVMH’s Chairman Bernard Arnault and CEO of the luxury watch brand TAG Heuer. However, the romance rumor ended quickly when it was revealed that Frédéric Arnault already had a girlfriend and he was only a fan of BLACKPINK’s music.
Jennie has been dating after her debut but has not officially acknowledged her relationships. When she was caught up in dating rumors with BIGBANG’s leader G-Dragon in 2021, she did not make any official statements.
Last year in May, she was also caught up in dating rumors with BTS V after being spotted on a drive date in Jeju Island. They were seen holding hands and enjoying a romantic date on the streets of Paris in May as well.
However, both Jennie’s agency, YG Entertainment, and V’s agency, Big Hit Music, did not issue any official response regarding the Paris date.
Jennie did, however, submit a complaint through her agency last October, requesting an investigation into the initial leaker of her private photos with V.
Various netizens who posted malicious comments and information about the private photos were also reported for defamation.
YG stated that they refrained from making further statements to minimize additional harm. However, due to the continuous spread of rumors, criticism, personal attacks, sexual harassment, and invasion of privacy through leaked photos, they felt a strong sense of responsibility and decided to address the legal measures.
YG further emphasized that they will take all necessary legal actions against any additional damages that may occur in the future. The photos circulated online were illegally disclosed without the consent of the parties involved, and sharing such photos could lead to legal consequences as it constitutes secondary harm.
