According to some BLACKPINK fans, YG is just wasting the money made by the girl group.
TREASURE – one of the most outstanding 4th generation boy groups – is preparing for a comeback. YG’s youngest boy group will officially return on February 15 with the mini-album The Second Step: Chapter One featuring the title track JIKJIN. On February 11, YG was reported to have invested more than 500 million won in TREASURE‘s JIKJIN MV. This is a surprisingly huge number because normally, companies only spend large amounts of money on MVs of top groups like BLACKPINK. It’s rare for any company to invest half a billion won in a rookie’s MV like YG.
Not only did YG spend a lot of money, the company also showed their efforts to go all out for this comeback of TREASURE. TREASURE’s new MV is produced by Lee Sang Yoon, former director of MAMA. For the filming set of JIKJIN MV, YG reportedly prepared various luxury cars to match the song’s concept, showing man’s desire to conquer speed and ambition.
Besides fans’ comments expressing excitement about TREASURE‘s comeback, there are negative reactions from a part of BLACKPINK fandom. Some BLACKPINK’s fans claim that YG is using the money from BLACKPINK’s activities to pour into their junior boy group, and that will just be a wasted investment. Instead of spending a lot of money filming the MV for TREASURE, these fans think YG should focus on BLACKPINK and let the girls shoot a comeback MV as soon as possible.
In response to disparaging comments from some BLACKPINK fans, TREASURE’s fans affirmed that the group is also a good source of income for YG, and the company is not wasting money because TREASURE has great potential.
