YG Family then vs now: The drastic change causes regret

Fans cannot help but feel upset looking at an old photo of YG artists.

YG Entertainment is the house to many popular K-pop idol groups and artists. There was a time when YG fans were united as the artists were as close as real family members. They held company concerts and took photos together. However, when looking back at one of those photos, fans are only filled with regret.

This photo was taken when YG was at its peak as the company’s groups were labeled the “king and queen” of K-pop. Epik High, BIGBANG, 2NE1… in the same frame is so powerful, representing the success of K-pop at that time. Not to mention, in the center, there was also Yang Hyun Suk – the former head and founder of YG.

Unfortunately, after the 2nd generation of K-pop passed and YG went through difficult times, the YG Family is no longer the same. Epik High and 2NE1 members parted ways with the company one by one when their exclusive contracts expired.

Fans used to believe that BIGBANG would forever be active under YG. However, in 2019, Seungri withdrew from the group, left YG and announced his retirement. On February 7, 2022, T.O.P also officially bid farewell to YG after 16 years. In the photo of the YG Family from years ago, only 3 members of BIGBANG are still part of the company now.

YG used to be crowded but now there are only 5 people in this photo who are still signed with YG, including only 3 BIGBANG members, G-Dragon, Taeyang and Daesung.

The 2022 version of the photo edited by fans is drawing much attention. Fans all feel nostalgic as they recall the golden era of YG

The fact that YG artists left one after another has a reason. T.O.P wishes to do solo activities as an artist and businessman. However, he confirmed that he would work with BIGBANG whenever possible. They will always be a band.

2NE1‘s disbandment must have been a heartbreaking thing for many K-pop fans. The group had a long hiatus period, so at that time Minzy decided to find a new path for herself. Park Bom did not renew her contract with the company when 2NE1 officially disbanded. In 2018, YG lost Epik High and PSY.

Working under YG for 10 years, CL also decided to leave. In 2021, Dara terminated her contract with the company. As for Yang Hyun Suk, because of the scandal, he was forced to resign as president.

Second generation idols no longer dominate K-pop. Instead, YG also holds other trump cards. WINNER, iKON, BLACKPINK and TREASURE are the groups that are still active. Moreover, they also bring in a great source of revenue for YG Entertainment. Fans expect that YG will again hold a joint concert with the participation of all artists.
