Fans have voiced their disappointment in YG for the underwhelming merchandise designs for BLACKPINK’s Jennie
BLACKPINK’s Jennie recently released her much-anticipated song “You & Me,” which garnered much attention during her solo performances at the BORN PINK world tour.
Fans were thrilled to learn that the cover art for “You & Me” was a collaboration with Naoko Takeuchi, the creator of Sailor Moon. This generated high expectations for the merchandise.
On October 17, YG unveiled the merchandise inspired by the collaboration between Jennie and Takeuchi. These included cushions, clothing items, and phone cases.
However, considering the high prices, fans were completely let down by the apparent lack of effort put into the product designs. Given the beautiful concept and artwork provided by Takeuchi, there was an expectation for more creativity. Yet, all YG seems to have done was merely transfering the original design to the merchandise.
BLACKPINK’s fans expressed their disappointment and criticized YG for their underwhelming work. Particularly, as discussions about the uncertainty of BLACKPINK’s contract renewal with YG continue to circulate, some fans are even hoping that Jennie will leave YG, as she deserves better.
