On the March 18 broadcast of tvN’s variety show You Quiz on the Block, episode 335 featured Yerin Ha, known for Bridgerton 4, alongside her maternal grandmother Son Sook as guests.
During the show, Yerin Ha revealed that she moved to Budapest at the age of 21 to pursue acting. She confessed that she lost a sense of herself while trying too hard to be liked by everyone, saying she constantly thought, “I have to make everyone like me.” As a result, she found it even harder to focus on her work.
She candidly shared her experiences in Hollywood, saying, “In Hollywood, there seems to be a mindset that Asian actors should be grateful just for being there. It felt like, ‘We gave you a big opportunity, so you should be thankful,’ and ‘You should do everything we ask.’ I said ‘yes’ to everything even when I was in pain because I didn’t want to burden anyone.”
She continued, “Of course, being grateful is important, but I want to say that we also deserve to be there equally. I felt that if I did well, it could open more opportunities for Asian actors, so I wanted to prove that. I carried a huge sense of responsibility.”
Overcome with emotion, Yerin Ha tearfully added, “For seven years, I only focused on working hard. Now, I finally feel recognized on a global stage as an Asian actress. I want to tell myself that I did well.”
