Yeonjun’s ‘Hip Thrust’ Dance Move Sparks Controversy from Nearly 3 Million Viewers

Viewers express mixed reactions to TXT Yeonjun's solo debut choreography, with many finding the move too suggestive for a K-pop performance

Recently, Yeonjun, the “dancing machine” of TXT, officially made his solo debut with the mixtape “GGUM”. As the first member of TXT to go solo, Yeonjun had fans eagerly anticipating his performance. “GGUM” is a rock-hip hop fusion track that requires stable performance skills. As TXT’s main dancer, Yeonjun focused on showcasing complex choreography, demonstrating his abilities through intricate and challenging dance moves.

Promoting “GGUM” on multiple music shows and recording meticulously produced performance videos, it’s clear that BigHit Music invested heavily in TXT’s main dancer’s solo debut. However, Yeonjun’s dance moves have recently come under fire for being overly suggestive.

A Twitter user shared a video of Yeonjun’s performance of his new song, garnering nearly 3 million views. The post criticized Yeonjun’s exaggerated “hip thrust” dance move. “Nothing makes me hate choreography more than when a male idol aggressively grabs his private area and stares at the audience, thrusting as if he thinks it’s the sexiest thing ever,” the post stated.

Many people agreed, commenting that Yeonjun’s moves were excessive and made viewers feel uncomfortable. Combined with his stage presence, this part of the performance was deemed inappropriate, even causing a “cringe” reaction.

On the other hand, some netizens argued that the criticism of Yeonjun was a “double standard.” They pointed out that the hip thrust move is quite common in K-pop, especially among male artists, and has rarely sparked controversy in the past. TXT fans speculated that anti-fans were stirring conflict, leading to the backlash against Yeonjun.
