Writer Kim Soon-ok’s “The Escape of the Seven” ratings are declining

SBS’s Friday-Saturday drama “The Escape of the Seven” is struggling

Episode 9 of SBS’s drama “The Escape of the Seven“, which aired on Oct 20th, recorded a viewership rating of 6.0%, which was a 0.5% decrease from the previous episode. The momentary highest viewership rating reached 7.3%.

In contrast, MBC’s drama “My Dearest”, which aired at the same time, achieved double digits, recording 10.2% nationwide.

“My Dearest” is receiving much love by ranking first in the same time slot and having the highest viewership rating among Friday-Saturday dramas, reaching a momentary peak of 12.7%.

Namkoong Min (as Lee Jang-hyun) and Ahn Eun-jin (as Yoo Gil-chae)’s fresh yet poignant narrative and solid acting skills have contributed to the drama’s success.

On the other hand, “The Escape of the Seven” has faced criticism from viewers since its first episode due to the introduction of characters engaged in various crimes and unethical actions, such as having sex with minors, assault of minors, teenage pregnancy, fake news and drugs.

“The Escape of the Seven” is a work by Kim Soon-ok, who is famous as a “spicy” writer, and PD Joo Dong-min.

7 Escape

The series is about seven people involved in the case of a missing girl, who face huge events intertwined with many lies and desires. It also depicts the journey of searching for the truth, as well as the bloody revenge that resembles divine punishment.

Unlike the successful previous works of writer Kim Soon-ok, “The Escape of the Seven” has received many negative reviews, with comments describing it as “too provocative“, “clichéd” and “hard to watch“.

However, the drama still maintains a strong presence in the TV-OTT comprehensive topicality category.
