Will Starship’s true education for “Sojang” lead to the eradication of cyber wreckers?

Expressing a strong determination to eradicate the roots of cyber wreckers with the motto “We’ll go all the way“, Starship and Jang Won-young are making meaningful strides against speculative rumors, unfounded speculations and malicious defamation circulating in the entertainment industry.

The Seoul Central District Court recently ruled partially in favor of Jang Won-young and Starship in a 100 million won damage compensation lawsuit against the operator of the YouTube channel “Sojang”. Jang Won-young filed a lawsuit, alleging that the “Sojang” operator spread false information insulting her personality through the channel’s content. The court decided in favor of Jang Won-young due to the opponent’s non-response, treating it as an admission of guilt.

In addition to Jang Won-young’s case, Starship is actively involved in domestic and international civil lawsuits against “Sojang”. Starship emphasized its commitment to protecting the honor, privacy and rights of its artists and announced ongoing efforts to hold the responsible party accountable through legal proceedings. The civil lawsuit filed by Starship against the channel is set for a hearing this month.

“Sojang” is a prominent YouTube cyber wrecker channel known for spreading speculative rumors, personal attacks and malicious defamation related to celebrities, causing mental distress. Despite other agencies pursuing legal actions against such channels, challenges arise due to the international nature of platforms like YouTube, making it difficult to identify the operators or take legal measures.

Starship has succeeded in uncovering the identity of the “Sojang” operator by translating evidence and videos submitted by fans into English and presenting them to a US court following a court order for information provision. Although significant time and effort were required for this process, Starship’s success in tracing the identities of cyber wreckers, online harassers and those spreading false information through legal procedures is considered significant.

While Starship and Jang Won-young are currently in the midst of a lawsuit against the prominent “Sojang”, it is acknowledged that this is just the beginning. Many cyber wreckers continue to thrive on YouTube, and online harassers leaving malicious comments and rumors on SNS are still numerous. The hope is that Starship’s proactive legal response sets a positive precedent for eradicating cyber wreckers and online harassers in the entertainment industry.
