tvN’s Saturday-Sunday drama “Castaway Diva”, which first aired on Oct 28th, is a new collaboration between PD Oh Choong-hwan and writer Park Hye-ryun, who showed great synergy through the previous works “While You Were Sleeping” and “Start-Up”. It revolves around Seo Mok-ha, a girl who dreams of becoming a diva. She wins a UCC competition and goes to Seoul to take an audition, but gets stranded on an uninhabited island due to an unfortunate accident and returns to the world after 15 years.
Park Eun-bin chose “Castaway Diva” as her next work after ENA’s “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”, which aired last year. “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” recorded the highest rating of 17.5%, and received “Grand Prize – Television” at the 59th Baeksang Arts Awards.
Park Eun-bin’s acting skills and vision seem to have struck gold once again. “Castaway Diva” started strong with 3.2% for the first episode. Moreover, episode 2, which aired on Oct 29th, achieved 5.2%, breaking the 5% mark in the first week of broadcast.
While competing shows at the same time slot are enjoying considerable popularity, there were concerns that “Castaway Diva” might struggle to make waves. Given that it overlaps with MBC’s “My Dearest” and SBS’s “The Escape of the Seven” on Saturdays, making it difficult to dominate the headlines.
However, Park Eun-bin freed herself from “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” and stood tall once again as aspiring singer Seo Mok-ha. During the “Castaway Diva” press conference, she shared, “I wanted to take on the role of Mok-ha with a light heart, but I realized later that there was a lot to do, and I thought, ‘I made a difficult choice.’ However, I don’t regret it. Mok-ha is a pure character with dreams, good at singing, plays the guitar as a hobby, needs to know how to swim in the sea for survival, and must speak in a dialect as a basic requirement. There were moments of frustration, but I worked hard because it was my choice.“
Her singing ability as displayed in the drama truly shocked viewers. She demonstrated remarkable vocal skills that could rival professional singers. For the multifaceted role of Seo Mok-ha, who encompasses singing, dancing, dialects and playing the guitar, Park Eun-bin said, “It was a new challenge for me.”
Having read the script for “Castaway Diva” while filming “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”, Park Eun-bin faced high expectations due to her past success. Nevertheless, she has overcome the pressure and is now portraying a new aspect of herself.
