Bang Minah Disliked Girl’s Day Debut Concept and Cried a Lot “Venturing into Acting Was Like Betraying Fans”

Girl’s Day Bang Minah openly shared her emotions and transformation from her debut as a singer to becoming an actress

On October 29th, Bang Minah appeared as a guest on Uhm Junghwa‘s YouTube channel.

Regarding the reason for her debut as a singer, Bang Minah said, “I dreamed of becoming a singer after watching BoA’s ‘MKMF’ and ‘Girls on Top’ performances. Looking back now, I think I wanted to be a performing artist. So, I quit vocal lessons. But what’s interesting is that the owner of that academy started an entertainment company and took me with them. That’s how I ended up making my debut.

Bang Minah added, “I didn’t expect to join a girl group. I thought we would become a vocal group like Big Mama or Brown Eyed Girls. But suddenly, they told us to dance, and I wondered, ‘Why am I learning this?’ But it turned out to be helpful. The debut song they gave us was a dance track.”

Debuting with “Tilt My Head,” Bang Minah said, “It was a disaster. But it wasn’t as obvious to people. It was a concept that no one had ever done before. We attached sponge bubbles sold in stationery stores to our outfits. Album-wise, it was a failure, but our recognition among people increased. People thought we would disappear soon.”

Bang Minah admitted, “I cried a lot, to be honest. I really disliked the concept. I didn’t sing for this purpose, and I wanted people to recognize me as a singer, not as a laughingstock. So, I went to our CEO with the whole group and asked for our next song to be something cool. That’s how we had ‘Female President’ as our next song.

Afterward, Girl’s Day achieved success with songs like “Ring My Bell” and “Expectation.” Bang Minah also pursued acting alongside her singing career. She said, “I started acting by chance, but it was challenging. The drama that marked my official acting career was ‘Beautiful Gong Shim,’ where I played the lead.”

However, Bang Minah felt like she had betrayed her fans by shifting into acting. She confessed, “I felt like I betrayed my fans who liked me as a singer because I originally started off as one. I sometimes still have these thoughts.”
