Please note that this article contains spoilers up to the latest chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen.

Chapter 269 of Jujutsu Kaisen, titled “Consideration,” was published in the 42nd issue of Weekly Shonen Jump on September 17th. With only two chapters left until the series concludes, a certain depiction has sparked hope among readers that Gojo Satoru might be revived.

In the latest chapter, which serves as an epilogue to the “Shibuya Incident,” characters from Jujutsu High reflect on their deadly battle with Sukuna and provide explanations for the events that occurred during the fight.

It’s a large panel on page 14 that has captured everyone’s attention: a mysterious pendulum clock. The clock’s hands are pointing at 2 o’clock and 21 minutes, respectively. This “221” has a rather intriguing connection to Gojo. The chapter where Gojo, who had been sealed away in the Prison Realm for a long time, returned to the human world thanks to Angel’s technique was Chapter 221, titled “Gain and Loss.”

Some readers seem to interpret this depiction as a hint that Gojo will be revived. Indeed, when you think about it, there are several unnatural elements, such as the fact that most of the characters who appeared in the epilogue didn’t mention Gojo’s death and that Choso was absent.

Furthermore, following the reappearance of Maki Zenin near the end of the battle, the epilogue revealed the survival of characters whose lives were in danger, such as Yuuta Okkotsu and Megumi Fushiguro. It’s not entirely impossible that Gojo’s survival might be depicted in the remaining two chapters.

If we take a slightly more meta perspective, the author, Gege Akutami, is strongly influenced by Yoshihiro Togashi. Togashi is known for repeatedly depicting scenarios in “Yu Yu Hakusho” and “Hunter x Hunter” where important characters thought to be dead were actually alive. It wouldn’t be surprising if Akutami chose to pay homage to this trope.
