At the screening and GV event for “Hellbound” Season 2 held on October 3 at CGV Centum City in Haeundae-gu, Busan, Kim Sung-cheol said, “The script was quite detailed. What I saw in the video was already in the script. Since it’s set 8 years later, I tried to imagine how painful it would be to remain in hell for that long.”
Kim Sung-cheol takes over the role of Jeong Jin-su, originally played by Yoo Ah-in, who had to step down.
Kim Sung-cheol, who acted in the scenes where Jeong Jin-su experiences hell firsthand, commented, “I tend to imagine a lot in general, and I thought the hell we depicted would be a new kind of hell. The psychological hell was terrifying, and I also felt a lot of pressure while watching the video.“
Meanwhile, Netflix previously released the trailer for “Hellbound” Season 2, confirming its premiere date for October 25, alongside the phrase “Chairman Jeong Jin-su is resurrected.” This season sees Kim Sung-cheol joining the cast, taking over from Yoo Ah-in, who stepped down due to a drug controversy, drawing significant public attention.
The “Hellbound” series, which showcases a dystopian worldview, ranked first in the Best Horror Series category at the 2021 Golden Tomato Awards. It recorded an impressive 110 million viewing hours within just ten days of its initial release, reaching the series’ TOP 10 in over 93 countries.
Season 2 continues the story in a world increasingly engulfed in chaos due to ongoing notifications of hell. It centers on the sudden resurrection of Jeong Jin-su (played by Kim Sung-cheol) from the New Truth Society and Park Jeong-ja (played by Kim Shin-rok). The narrative intertwines with lawyer Min Hye-jin (played by Kim Hyun-joo) and the New Truth Society, along with the Arrowhead faction.
The trailer highlights Jeong Jin-su’s resurrection, revealing the shocking fact that he, the first chairman of the New Truth Society, received a hell notification 20 years ago while misleading people by claiming the ensuing chaos was a divine message. Following his awakening, Jeong Jin-su screams amidst the flames as hell’s messengers approach him, and the trailer gradually showcases his resurrection process, heightening curiosity about future events.
The impressive synchronicity between Yoo Ah-in and Kim Sung-cheol has also captured attention, with viewers commenting, “I thought Chairman Jeong Jin-su was the same character,” indicating how easy it is to immerse themselves in the story.
Director Yeon Sang-ho expressed his excitement about returning to the world of “Hellbound”, “It’s thrilling and nerve-wracking to meet the world of ‘Hellbound’ again as someone who loves it.”
He also encouraged viewers’ expectations by promising that Season 2 would be filled with intriguing questions for those who enjoyed the first season.
“Hellbound” Season 2, set to stir the world once again, will be available on Netflix starting October 25.
