Why does a star writer regret the ending of her 57.6%-rating work?

Kim Eun-sook said that her first salary as a writer was only 700,000 won.

“Lovers in Paris”, which she wrote in 2004, recorded a super-high rating of 57.6%. Afterwards, her script fee per episode rose to 30 million won.

She literally hit the jackpot in numerous dramas including “Secret Garden, The Heirs, Descendants of the Sun, Guardian: The Lonely and Great God”, which she wrote later. She received 70~80 million won per episode for the 2016 drama “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God”, and is currently estimated to earn a script fee of about 100 million won per episode.

Writer Kim Eun-sook said in an interview in the past that she regretted the ending of a work which had received a lot of love from viewers. That work is “Lovers in Paris” starring Park Shin-yang and Kim Jung-eun, who made her who she is today.

“Lovers in Paris” gained huge popularity by drawing attention every episode thanks to the sweet theme of romance with a chaebol man, but in fact, the vain ending that everything was just the heroine’s scenario caused viewers to complain.

Writer Kim Eun-sook expressed regret, “I’m still reflecting on the ending. At that time, I thought that ending was a ‘bonus track’, but it turned out it wasn’t. Dramas should be pleasing to their viewers. It’s my fault that I couldn’t convince viewers.”

Kim Eun-sook is a star writer but she got a review that most of the works she has written cannot escape from “Cinderella Fantasy”. This time, she will meet viewers again through a work that is not romance.

The Glory“, which is scheduled to be released next year on Netflix, tells the revenge story of the heroine who was bullied at school. This is her second work with Song Hye-kyo, who worked together with her in “Descendants of the Sun”.

What will happen to star writer Kim Eun-sook and top actress Song Hye-kyo’s revenge drama? Many fans are looking forward to it.
