Webtoon and K-pop combined program “Webtoon Singer” will be released on Feb 17th… MCs, “We should do Season 2”
TVing’s new entertainment show “Webtoon Singer” heralds a next-level music show that combines webtoons and K-pop.
On February 14th, the production presentation for TVing’s original entertainment program “Webtoon Singer” was held online with the attendance of PD Hwang Sung Ho, SHINee Min Ho, comedians Yoo Se Yoon and Jang Do Yeon.
“Webtoon Singer” is introduced as a music variety show that combines K-pop, which is well-loved around the world, with K-webtoon to create webtoon OSTs.
Regarding the casting of the MCs, PD Hwang said, “I’ve worked with Jang Do Yeon in many programs and I personally like her hosting style. I realized Yoo Se Yoon’s excellent music hosting skills through ‘I Can See Your Voice’. Min Ho looks like a main character from comics and his image really suits webtoons.”
When asked about the criteria for the selection of 16 webtoons in “Webtoon Singer”, PD Hwang replied, “They are webtoons that people who don’t like webtoons can also enjoy”, adding “I chose works that go well with songs and have stories that can be performed on stage and draw sympathy”.
Yoo Se Yoon shared, “I was attracted by the plan of this show as soon as I saw the title ‘Webtoon Singer’”, adding, “I think we should do Season 2. Other MCs also think this is a valuable program”. When asked about his favorite webtoon, Yoo Se Yoon said, “I recommend ‘Helper’. This work is not included in Season 1 so I want to see it in Season 2. There are many webtoons that I want to see in Season 2”, showing his extraordinary affection for the program.
Explaining the charm of webtoon OST, Jang Do Yeon said, “When a webtoon is about to be forgotten, we recall it through music and make it become more interesting”, adding “You will be curious about how the webtoon characters are portrayed on the stage. We prepared everything perfectly”. Regarding a genre that she wants to do if she were to participate in the production of “Webtoon Singer”, Jang Do Yeon said, “It’s horror. I want to show a creepy stage that thrills viewers from the beginning until the end”
Praising the stage directing, Min Ho said, “Spectacular stages were unfolded using technology”, adding, “The music show is on the next level”. He continued, “All kinds of technology were applied to the show. The selection of songs was excellent. The arrangement, lyrics, and stages were all good”, raising viewers’ expectations. When asked to tell a behind-the-scenes story, Min Ho shared, “I could feel the sincerity of the webtoon writers”, adding “After watching the performances, I was completely immersed in the content of the webtoons. Many people shed tears.”
“Webtoon Singer” will be released for the first time on TVing at 4 p.m. on February 17th.
