Was NewJeans’ Livestream Manipulated by Min Hee-jin?

Members of NewJeans spoke up to protect former CEO Min Hee-jin

On September 11th, NewJeans members delivered a warning to ADOR’s parent company, HYBE, regarding the dismissal of former ADOR CEO Min through a surprise live broadcast. After the conflict between former CEO Min and HYBE was first publicized in April, this is the first time that NewJeans has directly expressed its position on this. Unlike their previous mention of former CEO Min, this time they directly mentioned HYBE and insisted on Min’s return to the position of CEO of ADOR.

There are mixed opinions over this live broadcast. Some say it is not wise for such young members to have to come forward and express their position, while others say that they have the right to demand better treatment as HYBE’s artists.

This also proves that this live broadcast has become a hot topic. Although NewJeans is currently in a top girl group in the global K-pop market, it is certainly unusual for a relatively young group to directly express their position on their company’s internal feud. As such, it is necessary to look at the stories and what the members had to tell themselves.

▶Why did the members hold such a livestream. Was it manipulated by Min?

The members made it clear that they did the live broadcast voluntarily. The claim is that not only HYBE’s staff but also ADOR’s staff were not aware of the plan. They also stressed that there was no intervention by Min. However, as the whole video was to criticize HYBE and praise Min in a well-prepared content, many people are suspecting Min was involved.

▶HYBE’s problems pointed out by the members of NewJeans: Leaked trainee videos, isolation from the staff, conflict with Dolphiners, one-sided notice of dismissal of Min Hee-jin, claim of ‘Min Hee-jin’s breach of trust’ just before the comeback, the members’ trust in Min.

In the end of the video, the girls strongly warned HYBE of consequences for their actions and demanded that Min Hee-jin return to her position as CEO of ADOR.
