Former f(x) member Victoria is making waves in China after leaving the Korean entertainment scene, gaining praise for her latest romantic drama alongside actor Chen Xingxu. Her Chinese drama, Our Interpreter (我們的?譯官), recently premiered in Taiwan and has been airing on GTV every Monday to Friday at 10 PM since November 18, according to Taiwanese media Sanli News Network.
The series, which originally aired in China last year, tells the story of senior translator Lin Xi who reunites with her ex-boyfriend Xiao Yicheng eight years after a campus romance. In the drama, Victoria and Chen Xingxu portray a classic older woman–younger man romance, capturing the hearts of viewers with their on-screen chemistry.
In a recent interview, Victoria addressed her recurring roles opposite younger male leads. She explained, “I did not choose these roles intentionally. It just happened that my co-stars were younger than me.” On real-life relationships, she added, “A healthy relationship is mutual if you want something, you should give something back,” eliciting laughter from the audience.
Victoria also shared her impressions of Chen Xingxu, saying, “He is tall and quiet, so I initially thought he was introverted.” Chen Xingxu admitted, “Honestly, I was intimidated by Victoria at first. Her serious aura is powerful. But once we got to know each other, I realized she is genuinely cute and bright.” Their playful banter highlighted their off-screen rapport, which fans found endearing.
Dedicated to her craft, Victoria revealed her commitment to authentically portraying a perfectionist translator. “I studied translation processes and conducted thorough research to accurately depict my character,” she said. She also joked, “I prepared my looks and intellect as well,” showcasing her signature humor.
After her contract with SM Entertainment ended in 2019, Victoria moved to China to continue her career. Her successful transition illustrates her versatility and growing influence in the Asian entertainment industry, proving that stepping outside her comfort zone can lead to new heights.
