Here’s why this Hollywood actress has a special affection for Korea and Korean culture.
As soon as it was released, Netflix’s popular series “Wednesday” directed by Tim Burton, received great love, reaching number one in 83 countries in the first week.
The cynical acting of Jenna Ortega, who plays the main character Wednesday, is of course great, but the energetic acting of Emma Myers, who plays Enid Sinclair, a werewolf girl, gives the series another fun twist.
Interestingly, Emma Myers is a huge K-pop fan. She and her sister are longtime fans of SEVENTEEN. She also revealed on Instagram that she went to SEVENTEEN’s concert.
Emma reacted in disbelief with her younger sister, Isabel, when SEVENTEEN members did the Wednesday Challenge and when Dino, a member of the group, mentioned and thanked her directly on his Instagram. Emma’s hilarious and relatable reaction to being noticed by SEVENTEEN went viral. In particular, Isabel even expressed her gratitude in Korean.
The reason why Emma and Isabel have a special affection for Korea and Korean culture is because of their family’s history. Their grandfather was a Greek engineer who came to Korea during the Korean War and helped with post-war restoration.
Their mother is said to have been born to grandparents who settled in Busan. Thanks to this, the Myers sisters have been exposed to Korean food since childhood. They were raised in an environment that made them more interested in Korea.
In particular, Emma likes not only SEVENTEEN but also Korean indie bands that even Koreans don’t know much about. Her younger sister Isabel’s Instagram bio has a Korean phrase, “It’s okay if you’re not happy”.
