Can “Live Your Own Life” help revive KBS’ weekend dramas?
On Sep 12th, the press conference of KBS2’s new weekend drama “Live Your Own Life” (written by Jo Jeong Seon, directed by Kim Hyeong Il) was held at the Ramada Seoul Sindorim Hotel in Sindorim-dong, Guro-gu, Seoul. PD Kim Hyeong Il, actors UEE, Ha Jun, Go Joo Won, Yoon Mi Ra and Lee Hwi Hyang attended the event.
“Live Your Own Life” tells the story of a family in which the members have always relied on their daughter Hyo Sim (UEE) because of her kindness and empathy. One day Hyo Sim decides to live an independent life so the members have to find their own path. Writer Jo Jeong Seon of “My Too Perfect Sons”, “Mother of Mine” and PD Kim Hyeong Il, who led “The King of Tears, Lee Bang Won” to success, teamed up.
“Box office queen” UEE, who recorded a viewership rating of close to 50% with “My Only One” in 2019, is raising great expectations as she returns to the KBS weekend small screen after 4 years. UEE portrays the main character Hyo Sim, the third daughter who is the head of the daily of a mother and two brothers after their father disappeared.
UEE said, “I wondered if I could take on the role of Hyo Sim. ‘Live Your Own Life’ has various stories, not just about Hyo Sim’s family, but also about love and neighborly relationships. I’m thankful that they entrusted Hyo Sim to me.”
She continued, “This is my first time playing the role of a trainer, so I received PT (personal training) 5 times a week. I focused more on details such as speech and behavior than physical exercise. My character in the drama was an athlete, but my running form isn’t pretty. So, I took classes and tried my best to follow the form of the athletes. I hope it doesn’t look awkward.”
She added, “People still call me ‘Do Ran’ (her character in ‘My Only One’) even now. I feel the pressure, but I think all I can do is follow the script, run hard, eat well, give love to my mom and work hard in my place like Hyo Sim in the drama. The pressure decreases while filming, and the anticipation is higher. When I go on variety shows, they introduce me as ‘the leading lady with a 40% rating’, but I said 35% because I wanted many people to watch. I hope word of mouth spreads, and ‘Live Your Own Life’ naturally exceeds 30%.”
