TV Show “Unanswered Questions” Remains Silent Regarding Controversial Episode about FIFTY FIFTY

SBS’s “Unanswered Questions” has remained silent for 2 months after airing a biased episode about girl group FIFTY FIFTY

Despite requests from journalists for a statement on their position, the program’s production team has provided no response, effectively refusing to engage with the controversy.

In August, following the broadcast titled “Billboard and Girl Groups – Who Broke Their Wings”, there was a wave of criticism. In response, the show issued a statement saying, “We are not attempting to take sides but to provide balanced coverage. We acknowledge that some aspects of the controversy have not been fully covered, and we will address them in a follow-up broadcast.” However, as of October 19th, the “Unanswered Questions” team has not made any further moves or statements.

Attempts to contact the program’s PD Jo and CP Han were unsuccessful. Questions sent to them regarding the progress of the follow-up broadcast, PD Jo’s involvement, the show’s stance on the legal action taken by FIFTY FIFTY‘s agency Attrakt, and the return of member Keena to the agency went unanswered.

“Unanswered Questions” sparked a backlash as they portrayed FIFTY FIFTY as “victims” without presenting concrete evidence. In response, many viewers posted complaints on the program’s bulletin board.

The Broadcasting and Communications Standards Commission (BCSC) received a total of 1,146 complaints regarding the broadcast in question, marking the highest number of complaints in the BCSC’s records from January to August.

However, due to the current backlog of tasks, it may only be possible to review the “Unanswered Questions” case by the end of the year.

Amidst this series of events, the prevailing opinion is that “Unanswered Questions” did not issue a proper apology. At the time, “Unanswered Questions” production team said, “We deeply apologize for the points in which we have hurt the feelings of many people working in the K-pop scene and K-pop fans, contrary to the intentions of our production team during the broadcast process.”

However, they did not offer an apology or reconciliation to the parties directly involved.

An industry insider commented, “Considering the influence of ‘Unanswered Questions,’ the broadcast exhibited such a bias that it could even become a problem for the K-pop industry as a whole. Currently, one of the interviewees has filed a lawsuit against ‘Unanswered Questions.’ Doubts about ‘Unanswered Questions’ have grown. It is essential to provide an official statement sooner rather than later.”
