“Trustworthy actors” Song Joong-ki, Kim Hye-soo and Ji Sung to appear in dramas in the second half of 2022

Top actors will visit the small screen in the second half of this year.

◇ Song Joong-ki, will he leave another character of a lifetime with “The Youngest Son of a Conglomerate”?

Song Joong-ki‘s “The Youngest Son of a Conglomerate” (written by Kim Tae-hee and Jang Eun-jae, directed by Jeong Dae-yun) is considered one of the most anticipated works of JTBC in the second half of the year. Based on the popular webtoon of the same name, “The Youngest Son of a Conglomerate” tells the story of Yoon Hyun-woo, who was betrayed and killed by Jin Do-joon, the youngest son of the family. Yoon Hyun-woo later woke up in Jin Do-joon’s body, taking advantage of the body, he went on to take revenge. “The Youngest Son of a Conglomerate” raises expectations as it is the next work of Song Joong-ki, who succeeded in returning to the small screen for the first time in 2 years with “Vincenzo” last year.

Song Joong-ki gained popularity with KBS 2TV’s “Sungkyunkwan Scandal”, “The Innocent Man”, SBS’ “Deep Ro Root Tree” and the movie “A Werewolf Boy”. Afterwards, he established himself as a popular star as KBS 2TV’s “Descendants of the Sun” broke the highest rating of 38.8% (provided by Nielsen Korea, based on households nationwide). Yoo Si-jin in “Descendants of the Sun” is still considered his representative character.

Song Joong-ki takes on the role of Yoon Hyun-woo in “The Youngest Son of a Conglomerate”. Yoon Hyun-woo was loyal to the Sunyang family, but was falsely accused and abandoned. After that, he wakes up in the body of Jin Do-joon, the youngest son of the Sunyang family, and tries to take over the Sunyang group. Song Joong-ki plays two roles Yoon Hyun-woo and Jin Do-joon. Attention is focused on whether Song Joong-ki will be able to meet another character of a lifetime in “The Youngest Son of a Conglomerate”, which contains the male protagonist’s hero-like narrative.

◇ Ji Sung, who digested multiple personalities, plays two roles in “Adamas”

tvN’s “Adamas” (written by Choi Tae-kang, directed by Park Seung-woo), in which actor Ji Sung plays two roles, is scheduled to premiere on July 27th. “Adamas” tells the story of twin brothers fighting against evil to unveil the truth behind a murder that happened 22 years ago in order to clear their biological father charges who was accused of killing their stepfather after hearing the death penalty date has scheduled for their biological father.

Ji Sung takes on a dual role of twin brothers, Song Soo Hyun, a fierce prosecutor, and Ha Woo Shin, a calm and rational mystery novel writer. Viewers are looking forward to how Ji Sung will portray two characters with different personalities. Ji Sung has proved his acting skills by pulling off a character with seven personalities in the 2015 drama “Kill Me, Heal Me”. Following well-received dramas led by Ji Sung namely “The Devil Judge”, “Familiar Wife”, “Innocent Defendant” and “Secret Love”, interest is focused on whether “Adamas” will be his next success.

◇ Kim Hye Soo is set to star in “Shuroop”, her first historical drama in 20 years

Kim Hye Soo’s upcoming drama, tvN’s “Shuroop” (penned by Park Bara, directed by Kim Hyung Sik) is also scheduled to be released in the second half of the year. “Shuroop” is a historical drama about the Royal Family Education Act in the Joseon Dynasty. It portrays a major struggle to turn the troublesome princes, who are the “royal headache”, into responsible crown princes.

“Shuroop” has been especially drawing much attention because it is the first historical drama that Kim Hye Soo appears in about 20 years after the 2002 drama “Jang Hee Bin”. Throughout her career, Kim Hye Soo has transformed into a variety of roles such as an irregular office worker, detective, lawyer, and judge in dramas namely “The Queen of Office”, “Signal”, “Hyena” and “Juvenile Justice”, etc. Therefore, by playing a woman who is struggling to make her son a king, she is expected to show off a new charm as a feisty and angry mother rather than her famous elegant image.

Led by Han Ji Hyun and Bae In Hyuk, SBS’s first youth drama set at a college campus in 23 years, “Cheer Up”

In the second half of this year, a drama starring many young rising actors will be launched.  After “KAIST”, SBS will present its first youth drama set against a university campus, “Cheer Up”, in 23 years. “Cheer Up” tells the story of young people who gather in a failing university cheering squad. 

The drama promises to capture both the coolness of a campus mystery and the joy of a romantic comedy. Han Ji Hyun, who proved her acting skills through “Penthouse”, and rising star Bae In Hyuk will appear in “Cheer Up” as leads. The cast also includes other young faces such as Kim Hyun Jin, Jang Gyu Ri, Lee Eun Sam, Yang Dong Geun, whose passionate performances are worth looking forward to.
