“True Beauty” ratings dropped from 9 to 6 after artist Yaongyi was accused of tax evasion

Netizens are expressing disappointment as webtoon artist Yaongyi (real name Kim Na Young) admitted that she was investigated due to tax evasion allegations.

As it became known that webtoon artist Yaongyi was investigated, the heat was on webtoon “True Beauty“. As of Feb 13th, the most recent chapter of “True Beauty” got a rating of 6. This is a remarkably low rating compared to previous chapters, which usually got a rating of 9. It seems that netizens, who are disappointed by the controversy over tax evasion, are engaging in what is called “rating terror”. Many comments related to tax evasion allegations were also caught in this chapter.

Earlier, Yonhap News Agency reported, “The National Tax Service of Korea has launched a tax investigation into 80 people, including celebrities, YouTubers and webtoon artists.” Accordingly, they bragged about buying supercars using company cards and even siphoned off money in the name of relatives and employees. Famous webtoon artist A reportedly evaded tax by supplying her works to corporations without issuing tax invoices.

When the article referred to the webtoon artist as A, Yaongyi admitted that she had been investigated through her Instagram post on Feb 11th.

Denying the charges, the author said, “It has been confirmed that I didn’t use the corporate card and vehicle for private purposes”.

However, many people point out that her statement was a little ambiguous and demand a more accurate explanation, saying “What did the National Tax Service announce?”, “Why would a company have a supercar?”, “Then, are you right or not?”, etc.
