Top 5 most streamed 4th generation idol groups on Melon: “monster rookies” aespa and IVE are absent, a disbanded girl group is #1

Here are the 5 Kpop groups debuted in the 4th generation with the highest stream counts on Melon.

MelOn is the largest and most popular music streaming service in Korea with over 28 million users. The number of streams recorded on MelOn is often used as a measure of the domestic popularity and impact of Kpop artists’ songs. Although the power of a strong fandom also contributes significantly to the number of streams of artists on MelOn, the level of public recognition of most groups with high stream counts is no joke either.

Recently, the ranking of the top 5 4th generation idol groups with the highest total streams for all of their songs released on MelOn, has been released and surprised many fans because of the absence of outstanding 4th generation girl groups such as IVE or aespa. 1st place even belongs to a girl group that has already disbanded.

5th place: AB6IX – 320,228,700 streams

AB6IX may not be exceptionally well-known among all Kpop fans, but fans of Produce 101 season 2 are definitely familiar with the group because 3 out of 4 members of AB6IX were contestants in Mnet’s 2017 survival show. Daehwi and Woojin also debuted in Wanna One.

AB6IX debuted in May 2019. They are no longer a rookie but have yet to get their big break in the industry with a true smash hit. However, AB6IX’s number of streams on MelOn proves that the group’s music is fairly enjoyed by the public and their loyal fan base.AB6IX

4th place: ITZY – 471,789,600 streams

Among the current top girl groups of the 4th generation, ITZY is undoubtedly one of the leading names along with IVE and aespa. The JYP girls made it into Top 4 of the most streamed 4th generation groups on Melon.

After 3 years of debut, ITZY has released several well-received title tracks like “Dalla Dalla“, “WANNABE“, “ICY“, “Not Shy“,… However, last year, the group’s digital performance was showing signs of going downhill, as Korean listeners no longer appreciated their songs as much as before.

3rd place: TXT – 505,901,300 streams

TXT is about to celebrate their 3rd debut anniversary, but the group’s success is still a big question mark for many Kpop fans. It is certain that TXT has been strongly supported internationally, but after 3 years, the group has still not been able to move past the “BTS’s younger brother” label in Korea.

TXT’s most popular song 0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You) also had the participation of BTS’s leader RM in the production. Debuting as BTS’s first labelmate was not only an advantage but also a huge pressure for TXT to live up to their successful senior boy group.

2nd place: (G)I-DLE – 601,009,600 streams

The most successful girl group within the period starting from the second half of 3rd generation until the beginning of 4th generation, is probably none other than (G)I-DLE. It has been a long time since they released a new album, but the total stream of the group’s old songs on MelOn has steadily increased, affirming the high-quality music of (G)I-DLE.

After Soojin‘s departure because of the school bullying controversy, fans are looking forward to (G)I-DLE‘s next comeback to get back on the Kpop race.

1st place: IZ*ONE – 850,274,600 streams

With an active period of only 2 years and 6 months, IZ*ONE not only bagged many achievements but also introduced many hits to the industry. Songs like “La Vie en Rose”, “Violeta”, “Fiesta”, “Secret Story Of The Swan”,… were all well-received by the public, not just limited to within the fandom. IZ*ONE‘s feminine and dreamy concept is also Korean fans’ favorite.

If only IZ*ONE were not a project group and extended their promotions as a normal girl group, they would have been the No.1 4th generation girl group in Korea.
