Speaking on the podcast Einfach mal Luppen with his brother Felix, Kroos quipped: “I trust my audience. I’d say half of them have never even heard of Isak. You be the judge.”

Felix Kroos then reminded listeners of Isak’s brief stint at Borussia Dortmund, where the striker made just 13 appearances and scored one goal. Toni added: “Dortmund, right? He didn’t exactly show much there.”

Kroos also expressed disbelief at the €145 million transfer fee: “They (Liverpool) clearly have plenty of money no doubt about that.”

Liverpool shattered their transfer record this summer by signing Isak from Newcastle for €145 million, making him the fourth most expensive player in football history, behind Neymar (€222m), Kylian Mbappé (€180m), and Ousmane Dembélé (€148m).

Despite the criticism, Isak enjoyed his best career season in 2024/25, scoring 27 goals in 42 matches for Newcastle across all competitions. Liverpool fans are now hopeful that his partnership with Mohamed Salah and Hugo Ekitike will give the club a serious shot at silverware on all fronts.
