To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the anime adaptation of “Tokyo Ghoul,” an immersive exhibition event titled “Tokyo Ghoul EX” is set to open in Tokyo on October 21st and in Osaka on December 14th. Excitingly, a newly released illustration drawn exclusively by the original manga author, Sui Ishida, will be given as a gift to all attendees. Additionally, new details about the exhibit have been revealed.
“Tokyo Ghoul” is a TV anime series based on the manga by Sui Ishida, which was serialized in “Weekly Young Jump” and has sold over 47 million copies worldwide. Set in a world where creatures called “ghouls” that eat humans exist, the story follows Ken Kaneki, a protagonist who becomes a half-ghoul in an accident and gets caught up in the battle between humans and ghouls.
The anime was adapted into a TV series from July to September 2014, followed by “Tokyo Ghoul √A” from January to March 2015, and “Tokyo Ghoul:Re” as a new series in 2018. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the anime series, a 10th-anniversary project was launched in March 2024, and “Tokyo Ghoul EX” is part of this project.
“Tokyo Ghoul EX” is an immersive exhibition that allows visitors to experience the beautiful and tragic world of the enduringly popular TV anime series, “Tokyo Ghoul,” through a variety of exhibits, interactive experiences, and immersive visuals.
The event announced several highlights, including an “Immersive Theater: Kaneki vs. Yamori” that uses haptic technology to recreate iconic scenes from the anime with stunning visuals and vibrations that stimulate the sense of touch. Additionally, visitors can explore the “Kaneki’s Mask Production Process” exhibit, which showcases the 3D data used to create the intricate masks seen in the series.
Newly released artwork by the original author, Ishida Sui, has been unveiled exclusively for this event. As a special gift, all attendees at the Tokyo venue will receive a mini color paper featuring “Ken Kaneki wearing the Anteiku uniform,” while those attending the Osaka venue will get one with “Ken Kaneki with white hair after the battle with Yamori.” Don’t miss out on these exclusive gifts, available only at each respective venue.
Additionally, a wide variety of exclusive original merchandise will be available, featuring newly drawn illustrations by both Kazuhiro Miwa, the character designer for the anime “Tokyo Ghoul,” and Atsuko Nakajima, the character designer for “Tokyo Ghoul:Re.” This extensive lineup promises to be a treat for fans.
Additionally, new details about the exhibition have been revealed. The overall layout of the exhibition area has been unveiled, and alongside previously announced attractions like the “Kaneki vs. Yamori” theater, there will be interactive exhibits, three-dimensional displays of ghoul masks, and installations that guide visitors through the “Tokyo Ghoul” story through dialogue and objects. It seems the exhibition will offer a truly immersive experience, allowing fans to dive deep into the anime world. The beloved cafe from the series, “Anteiku,” will also make an appearance, giving fans a chance to explore a recreation of the cafe’s interior.
