This popular Korean actress in her 50s has been playing an ahjumma for 30 years, but she’s still single

Surprisingly, this actress has never been married. 

Born in 1970, with her warm vibes, actress Lee Jung Eun has been consistently taking on the role of a middle-aged woman on the Korean screen for years. Since she has played a mother before, many viewers may assume that she is also married and has children in real life. But that is actually not true.

Lee Jung Eun graduated from Hanyang University’s Department of Theater and made her debut in the 1991 play “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Throughout her lengthy career of 30 years, she is known as a hardworking actress who has gone through many hardships.

When she was in theater, she had a hard time making 200,000 won a year. Before she was shot to stardom, Lee Jung Eun worked various part-time jobs in parallel with acting until 40.

She used to work as an acting teacher, a mart employee, and a green juice salesperson. In 2015, she transformed into a Shaman in tvN’s “Oh My Ghost”. In 2018, she played a maid in tvN’s “Mr. Sunshine”. The next year, she was cast in her most well-known role in director Bong Joon Ho’s Oscar-winning film “Parasite.” Her portrayal of housekeeper Moon Gwang in “Parasite” left a deep impression on international audiences and brought her many acting awards.

What’s unique about Lee Jung Eun is that she speaks a regional dialect, but turns out, she is from Seoul. She is crazy about acting, to the point she said that she married acting. When asked if she was against actual marriage, Lee Jung Eun said, “I tend to fall in love quickly, so I can’t concentrate on work while dating. I look for stability in everything but love.”

Lee Jung Eun shared that she has not been in a relationship since she was 45, and that she doesn’t have any children, but she is living her single life happily with two dogs.

Lee Jung Eun is currently appearing in tvN’s “Our Blues”, showing off her chemistry with Cha Seung Won and Uhm Jung Hwa. To nail the role of a fish shop owner from Jeju Island, Lee Jung Eun is said to have lived in Jeju for a year to study her character.
