This actress, who started acting at the age of 12 and won a Daesang at the age of 21, is back after 3 years but not as an actress.

On December 8th, the Women in Film Korea Festival organization announced that it has selected Moon Geun Young as the winner of the “Kang Soo Yeon Award” at the 2022 Women in Film Korea Festival held in Gwanghwamun, CNECUBE, Seoul on December 15th.

The “Kang Soo Yeon Award,” commemorating the pioneer and great filmmaker Kang Soo Yeon, is an award given with encouragement to filmmakers who contributed to the development of Korean films through acting, directing, scriptwriting, production, and staff.

The 2022 Women in Film Korea Festival is a festival of the Women in Film Group and the Korean Film Gender Equality Center, which is designed to create an inclusive and diverse film industry by taking the lead in protecting the rights and interests of female filmmakers.

Meanwhile, Moon Geun Young made her debut as an actress in the 1999 film “On the Way” at the young age of 12. After that, she appeared as the child version of Song Hye Kyo in “Autumn in My Heart” in 2000, and began to make her name known in the industry.

Moon Geun Young is also famous for winning the Acting Daesang at the age of 21. She won the SBS Drama Awards in 2008 for her huge popularity with the drama “Painter of the Wind” starring actor Park Shin Yang.

After her 3-year hiatus after the 2019 drama “Catch the Ghost!”, she made her debut as a director by releasing three short films which were revealed at the 26th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival in July.

Moon Geun Young said, “As the subject of ‘I’ became me, I began to look back at acting again. The work that contains such enlightenment is ‘The Abyss’. I am so absorbed that I forget how to breathe. I think this also means that I didn’t take care of myself because I liked acting so much,” she explained.
