This actor receives negative reviews on first return after two years due to COVID-related controversy

Choi Jin Hyuk has not been able to make a big splash with his return drama after two years of lying low.

Making its premiere at the same time as “Revenant,” MBC’s “Numbers” is not producing any big numbers and failing to capture viewers’ attention. It is more daunting when the series is Choi Jin Hyuk’s return to the drama scene following a controversy two years ago. In 2021, the actor went to a bar amidst the height of COVID, violating health protection procedures. Netizens did not receive the news well, despite any attempt from the actor’s agency to explain. Therefore, the actor had to go on a hiatus and pull out of the famous variety show “My Little Old Boy.”

Because the hiatus came right after his sudden rise to stardom with “Mr. Queen,” netizens have a lot of expectations for “Numbers” – his chance to revive his career – and Choi Jin Hyuk’s performance in it.

In “Numbers,” Choi Jin Hyuk plays Han Seung Jo, the son of Vice President Han Je Kyoon and a senior manager at Taeil Accounting Firm. Although born with a golden spoon, Han Seung Jo is different from other wealthy, “CEO” characters with flashy and charming appearances. He experiences a lot of things and mostly keeps to himself. From an outsider’s perspective, Seung Jo is tough and unpredictable.

While viewers hope this return could be a big splash for Choi Jin Hyuk, they are deeply disappointed by his performances. On the one hand, audience members say he did a lot of unnecessary frowning expressions regardless of their relevance to a scene. On the other hand, viewers believe Choi Jin Hyuk in “Numbers” is no different from Jin Hyuk in “My Little Old Boy” – too little acting and too much entertainment. Therefore, viewers hope Jin Hyuk can perform better in the last few episodes.
