The Weeknd and Jennie’s collab song praised amid “The Idol”s various controversies

Despite “The Idol” facing various controversies, the collab song of The Weeknd, Lily-Rose Depp, and Jennie, is well-received.

On June 23rd (Korean time), Jennie’s collaboration song with The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp, was released. Titled “One Of The Girls”, this song is an OST for HBO’s “The Idol”, which marks BLACKPINK Jennie’s first acting project.

However, despite receiving huge attention, “The Idol” has been buried in various controversies, to the point of being called a “sordid male fantasy” by US media.

Previously at the opening event for the collection “Jennie for Calvin Klein”, a part of “One Of The Girls” have been teased, and immediately became a hot topic. Not befalling expectations, “One Of The Girls” is embedded with the colors of pop star The Weeknd, easily matching “The Idol” and connecting with previous OST tracks.

In addition to the intricate RnB melody, Jennie’s part became the talk of the town. In fact, the female idol’s vocal tone perfectly matched with The Weeknd’s genius production, and her fluent English pronunciation perfectly conveyed the song’s atmosphere. Production-wise, there’s not much to criticize about “One Of The Girls”, as The Weeknd and Jennie made for a dream-like combo when it comes to music.

But the lyrics still somewhat provoke controversy, especially in Jennie’s singing verse. As a K-pop idol and the female rapper of BLACKPINK, she never hesitates to break boundaries but still faces considerable criticism, especially after her role as Dyanne in ‘The idol’.

Netizens’ reactions to Jennie and The Weeknd’s new song:

  • It’s undeniable that The Weeknd’s music is excellent, and Jennie’s voice suits his musical style. They should definitely collaborate more often.
  • It’s starting, but Jennie’s lyrics sound empty and seem like she’s just showing off.
  • The series may be bad, but the OST playlist is worth praising.
  • The music seems a bit monotonous, like rehashing previous songs.
  • The lyrics aren’t particularly great, but Jennie’s singing is incredibly smooth. It’s hard to stop listening.
