“Is this Joseon Exorcist Season 2?” The situation is not good for Kim Hye-soo’s historical drama return “Under The Queen’s Umbrella”

According to Nielsen Korea, the first episode of tvN’s new Saturday-Sunday drama “Under The Queen’s Umbrella,” which premiered on Oct 15th, received an average rating of 7.7% (based on paid households nationwide), and recorded the highest of 9.4%. The second episode broke its own record with an average of 9.1% and a maximum of 10.4%.

The Queen’s Umbrella

Viewers are enthusiastic about the drama. However, several serious suspicions are spraying water on the scorching heat. “Under The Queen’s Umbrella” is under allegations of history distortion related to “China.”

The Queen’s Umbrella

In the second episode, which aired on Oct 16th, the phrase “Mul Gwi Won Ju,” which means “everything will go back to its original owner,” appeared in the caption. Many are accusing that instead of using the Hanja character “物歸原主,” the phrase was written in Chinese “物归原主.”

The Queen’s Umbrella

In response, as controversy arose on online communities, “Under The Queen’s Umbrella” revised the notation of “Mul Gwi Won Ju” marked in the second episode to “物歸原主'”.

However, in addition, it was controversial that the Queen (Kim Hye-soo) was found to have hung the tablet which uses the name “Taehwa Palace” at the King’s bedroom in the scene where she went to find him. Taehwa Palace is identified as the name of the Forbidden City’s main palace during the Qing Dynasty and was never used in Joseon.

In addition, many are pointing out another error where Prince Ui-seong (Kang Chan-hee), son of Deposed Queen Yoon (Seo Yi-sook), described the Queen as “your mother” (informal word) to Grand Prince Seong-nam (Moon Sang-min), who is the current Queen’s son. As the son of a Deposed Queen, Prince Ui-seong cannot use such informal language to Grand Prince Seong-nam.

Internet users are responding in various ways, such as “Is this the 2nd Joseon Exorcist?” “The sponsors will have a hard time again,” and “It’s ruining the atmosphere.”

tvN’s Saturday and Sunday drama “Under The Queen’s Umbrella” is drawing attention as actress Kim Hye-soo’s first return with a historical drama in 20 years. The show airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9:10 p.m.
