Currently drawing major attention on Korean television is The Scarecrow, which has kicked off with impressive momentum. The series saw a significant jump in ratings from 2.9% to 4.1% after its first two episodes an increase of roughly 41%, marking a highly promising start.
According to early viewers, the drama delivers an intense and gripping storyline. It follows Kang Tae Joo, a police officer known for his sharp instincts and keen observational skills. After being demoted from Seoul and sent back to his hometown, he takes on a long-unsolved serial murder case in an effort to restore his reputation.

During the investigation, he crosses paths with prosecutor Cha Si Young. Kang Tae Joo harbors deep resentment toward him due to past bullying during their school days. However, in order to catch the killer, the two are forced into an uneasy alliance.
Cha Si Young, on the other hand, is an elite prosecutor recognized for his calm demeanor and calculating mind. Ambitious and politically driven, he sees the serial murder case as a stepping stone for his career. Despite their personal conflict, he chooses to collaborate with Kang Tae Joo to achieve his goals.

What makes the drama even more compelling is its real-life inspiration. The script, written by Lee Ji Hyun, is based on the infamous Hwaseong serial murders, which traumatized the nation. Between 1986 and 1991, the perpetrator assaulted and murdered 10 victims, leaving the case unsolved for decades. It wasn’t until 2019 that DNA evidence finally revealed the killer’s identity.
Although the perpetrator was never prosecuted for those crimes due to the statute of limitations, he remains imprisoned for life for a separate serious offense.

Beyond its powerful storyline, the drama is also gaining attention for its strong cast. Leading the series are Park Hae Soo and Lee Hee Joon, both known for their intense performances. Park Hae Soo has previously impressed audiences in works like Prison Playbook, Squid Game, and Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area. Meanwhile, Lee Hee Joon is also a familiar face through projects such as Mouse and A Killer Paradox.
With a chilling true story, compelling characters, and powerhouse performances, The Scarecrow is quickly shaping up to be one of the most talked-about K-dramas of the moment.
