Actress Park Ji Hyun (28) has emerged as the biggest beneficiary of JTBC’s drama “Reborn Rich.”
“Reborn Rich” has recorded the highest viewer rating of 26.9% (based on paid households nationwide) and achieved the title of “The best mini-series this year”. In the drama, Park Ji Hyun showed off her strong presence as Mo Hyun Min, the granddaughter-in-law of Sun Yang Group Chairman Lee Sung Min (Jin Yang Chul).
Making her debut with the MBC drama “The King Loves” in 2017, she has accumulated an impressive filmography step by step for five years. With “Reborn Rich,” Park Ji Hyun faced a crucial turning point in 2022. Let’s meet and have a chat with the rising new star Park Ji Hyun.
Q: How do you feel after the show came to an end?
“It would be a lie if I said it wasn’t hard for me in the filming process. I was very nervous because I had to film with my seniors, but I am so happy these days because the results are so good.”
Q: Are you feeling the popularity?
“It hasn’t hit me yet. My role is not a big one, but I’m thankful that everyone loves it. I’m not sure whether I’m doing great or not, and I think we’ll have to wait and see.”
Q: There was even a rumor that you are a former wrestler.
“I don’t know where that came from. I’ve never really wrestled. I used to be a swimmer in elementary school, but after that, I had never been back on the path of an athlete.”
Q: What did you think when you were first offered the role of Mo Hyun Min?
“First of all, I saw the script and thought the writer had built her so attractively. At that time, there were auditions for three roles: Seo Min Young, Mo Hyun Min, and Rachel. I went to the audition, but the director only made me do the role of Mo Hyun Min. So I thought I had failed. However, I was cast after only one audition.”
Q: What did you focus on to prepare for “Reborn Rich”?
“Since it’s a period drama, I thought there would be many things to try in terms of styling. When it comes to hair or makeup, I divided my style into before and after marriage. Before marriage, I parted my hair on the side and after marriage, I parted my hair on the front. I used wigs because I had to distinguish between my 20s and 40s. I also looked up a lot of makeup styles from that era. I put my heart and soul into designing my character. There are many items that I personally bought from vintage shops and wore clothes that my stylist managers bought. I also matched my nails to with my clothes and makeup. My nails hurt because I kept putting and taking off the fake tips. All of this has made Mo Hyun Min, a character created by everyone’s cooperation.”
What’s your chemistry with actor Song Joong Ki and Kim Nam Hee?
“In fact, I don’t have many scenes with Song Joong Ki. Kim Nam Hee was the actor I filmed with the most. He is really a genius. It was an honor to be with him.”
Q: Is there any title you want to hear from now on?
“The public and the audience are important, but I hope the staff, directors, and actors in the field will recognize me as an actress who they want to work with again.”
Q: What’s your goal for next year?
“I want to be a happier person day by day. ‘Hidden Face’ is likely to be released next year. I was so happy at the scene with Cho Yeo Jung and Song Seung Hun, so I don’t care about the results. I just want to show many people my new side.”
