The reason why BLACKPINK’s comeback has been put off for so long: Members’ solo careers are prioritized

It has been over 500 days since BLACKPINK’s last comeback as a whole and fans are getting impatient.

Since BLACKPINK released their 1st full album THE ALBUM and the title track Lovesick Girls in 2020, the group has basically gone on a hiatus from music activities as a whole without any comeback for more than 500 days.

BLACKPINK still managed to break records left and right during this long break. Lisa, Rosé, Jennie, and Jisoo have all achieved great success with their solo activities. But why is BLACKPINK’s comeback not announced yet? Let’s find out what’s going on with the group.

Fans are angry at YG for only selling goods instead of letting BLACKPINK release new music

On this year’s Valentine’s Day, YG announced the release of Welcoming Collection – BLACKPINK’s 2022 season greetings. This made fans unhappy.

Lots of BLINKs decided to turn their backs on goods released by YG and stop giving the company money until BLACKPINK’s comeback is announced. “We didn’t wait 500 days for a Welcoming Collection. Give us BLACKPINK’s comeback. No music, no money.”

Just a few weeks ago, the education company Hybe Edu and Weverse worked together with YG to launch a Korean textbook package called BLACKPINK in Your Korean. Fans continue to be disappointed because it seems like YG is ignoring their feedback.

BLINKs pointed out that for a popular group like BLACKPINK, having only 21 songs in 6 years since their debut is too little and unusual. Moreover, it’s been almost 2 years since BLACKPINK released The Album. Such a break is as long as a duration of time when male idols enlist in the military. BLACKPINK are singers to begin with, not models or CF stars, so it drives fans mad that YG stops them from doing their main jobs.

BLACKPINK members are focusing on solo activities

A reason that is widely believed to be why BLACKPINK’s comeback as a whole has been so delayed is that YG wants the members to have time to develop their individual careers. Jisoo recently landed her first K-drama female lead role in Snowdrop, co-starring famous actor Jung Hae In.

Before Jisoo, both Lisa and Rosé had successful solo debuts with the single albums LALISA and -R-, earning many impressive achievements and breaking numerous records for a solo K-pop artist.

Lisa BLACKPINK in Paris

Last year and early this year have been the golden time for BLACKPINK members to prove their influence in fashion and beauty. Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa have all continued to grace magazine covers, endorse and collaborate with various brands, sweep Paris fashion week, etc.

Recently, Jennie herself confirmed that BLACKPINK is preparing for their comeback and will return in the near future. Hopefully, the group’s long-awaited comeback will finally take place by the end of 2022.
